For each game the stakes will be advertised. At peak times like weekends and holidays the minimum stakes may be raised.players need to ensure that they have enough chips to last a game, as they are not usually allowed to purchase more chips until a game is completed.A game of draw poker requires around 40 times the minimum stake. Seven card stud requires around 50 times. Hold'em and Omaha need around 100 times.

Players who run out of chips during a game can still have a chance of winning a proportion of the pot. This is called the all in rule. When a players runs out of chips, a second pot is started. The other players continue to play , contributing to the second pot. The winner of the game gets the second pot. The hand of the winner is then compared to that of the player who ran out of money. The player with the highest- ranking hand wins the first pot
