1. Benny Binion was a former cowboy, gambler and owner of the horse hoe casino, the venue for the World Series. He was an all round player, skilled at many forms of poker.

Doyle ‘ Texas dolly’ bur son gave up a career as a sales man to become a professional poker player in the year 1950 when he realized that he could earn ten times his salary in a fraction of the time at the tables. He practiced the game for up to 20 hours a day and started out playing in backroom card games. He won $6000,000 as winner of the world series in 1976 and 1977
3. Johnny Moss three times winner of the World Series in 1970, 1971 and 1974 once played a five month long game with Nick the Greek taking breaks only for sleep.
